Episode Summary
What does Jesus actually mean when he says someone is “blessed”? In this video, we explore the opening of the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes, where Jesus turns common ideas about blessing, success, happiness, and religious righteousness upside down. Rather than defining blessing by wealth, comfort, popularity, or achievement, Jesus describes a kingdom where God’s favor rests on the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
We’ll explore what these surprising teachings reveal about the kingdom of God and what it means to live as part of this radically different community. From spiritual poverty and lament to justice, perseverance, and mercy, the Beatitudes challenge us to see faith not as a path to worldly success but as an invitation to participate in God’s transforming work in the world.
