Do! (Session 1)
Ask, Seek
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
Episode Summary
What does Jesus mean when he says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened”? In Matthew 7:7–12, Jesus begins the positive “do” section of the Sermon on the Mount by teaching his followers how prayer, relationship with God, and care for others are connected. Rather than presenting prayer as a formula for getting whatever we want, Jesus describes God as a loving Father who knows what we need and invites us into genuine relationship through asking, seeking, and listening.
This teaching explores the purpose of prayer, unanswered prayers, God’s guidance, and the difference between treating prayer as a transaction and understanding it as a relationship. Jesus calls his followers not only to ask God for what they need but to actively seek God’s will, trusting that God responds even when the answer is not what they expected. As we seek God’s kingdom and learn to align our desires with God’s desires, prayer becomes a transformative journey of faith, trust, and spiritual growth.
