Do! (Session 2)
Knock
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
Episode Summary
What does Jesus mean when he tells us to “ask,” “seek,” and “knock”? In Matthew 7:7–8, Jesus teaches that prayer is not about passively waiting for God to make every decision obvious. Knocking represents persistence: even when a door appears closed, Jesus invites his followers to keep praying, keep seeking, and boldly bring their hopes, questions, and needs before God. This teaching explores what it means to approach God with confidence rather than fear, and why Christian prayer can include persistence, lament, uncertainty, and even boldness.
Jesus presents God not as a distant ruler who is difficult to approach, but as a loving and accessible Father who welcomes his children into relationship. Through Jesus’ teaching in Matthew and Luke, we see prayer as an ongoing practice of asking, seeking, and knocking—one that can change circumstances, reshape our desires, and transform us in the process. Rather than giving up when a door seems closed, Jesus calls his followers to remain persistent in prayer and pursue God’s kingdom with courage and trust.
