God’s Favor (Session 8)
Those Who Make Peace
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9
Episode Summary
What does Jesus mean when he says, “God’s favor is on the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”? In this session on the Sermon on the Mount, we explore the seventh Beatitude and challenge the idea that peace simply means the absence of conflict. Biblical peace—shalom—is rooted in justice, righteousness, reconciliation, and human flourishing. From the Roman “peace” of Jesus’ day to the story of Zechariah, this study considers how silence and stability can coexist with oppression, injustice, and violence.
Jesus calls his followers not merely to desire peace but to actively make peace. This means loving enemies, confronting injustice, speaking truth to power, pursuing reconciliation, and refusing to answer violence with more violence. As children of God, Christians are called to reflect the character of the God of peace, whose ultimate act of reconciliation comes through Jesus and the cross. This video explores what it means to become a peacemaker—and why genuine Christian peace is active, courageous, and inseparable from justice.
