Final Words to the Church

Summary

Josh’s final message to Vallonia Christian Church, this sermon offers five simple but challenging reminders for the work of following Jesus together. You cannot do everything—but you can do everything you can. Trust God with the results. When difficult decisions arise, err on the side of love. Get everyone involved in the work of the church. And above all, continue the work God has already begun among you. Rooted in the example of Jesus and his disciples, this message is both a farewell and a challenge: to remain centred on Christ, committed to community, and devoted to the ministry of reconciliation, trusting that God can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine.

Outline

1. You Can’t Do Everything — The needs around us can feel overwhelming, but God does not ask us to solve every problem. Like the boy with the loaves and fishes, we are called to offer what we have and trust God to use it.
2. Trust God for the Results — Christian success is not always measured by numbers, prosperity, or immediate results. Our responsibility is faithful obedience; the ultimate results belong to God.
3. Err on the Side of Love — When faced with difficult decisions, choose the path most deeply rooted in love. Radical, generous love may make us vulnerable and even lead to difficulty, but love remains the light that darkness cannot overcome.
4. Get Everyone Involved — The church is not meant to be a place of passivity. Every person has gifts, a calling, and a place within the body of Christ, and the work of the church belongs to the whole community.
5. Continue the Work — Keep doing what God has called this church to do: remain centred on Jesus, grow deeper in community, pursue reconciliation, love generously, and persevere in faithful service.
