“The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, ‘This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year.’” – Exodus 12:1-2
When the Israelites are liberated from slavery in Egypt, God gives them a whole new calendar. Their new lives are no longer locked into the old systems and old cultures of their oppressors. The turn of the calendar is a time of new resolutions, but God reminds us that we don’t have to wait on the old calendar to give us a new year. Renewal and liberation can come at any time.
Identify one area of your life that needs a fresh beginning—habits, rhythms, relationships, or priorities. Prayerfully reset it this week.
Red Letter Christians
Red Letter Christians is a non-denominational Christian movement founded in 2007 by progressive evangelical authors and activists Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne. The movement emerged as a counter-cultural reaction to the American religious right, seeking to distance faith from partisan politics and shift the evangelical focus away from a narrow set of dogmatic issues toward Jesus’s radical lifestyle commands. Guided primarily by teachings like the Sermon on the Mount, Red Letter Christians emphasize active social justice—specifically advocating for the poor, ending capital punishment, promoting racial reconciliation, protecting the environment, and practicing peace and nonviolence.
