Do Not! (Session 4)

Do Not Fail to Forgive

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15

Episode Summary

In Matthew 6, Jesus connects prayer, forgiveness, and life in the kingdom of God, challenging his followers to extend to others the same grace they have received from God. In this video, we explore Jesus’ difficult teaching that those who refuse to forgive others will struggle to experience the fullness of fellowship with God. Rather than suggesting that salvation must be earned through forgiveness, this passage points toward the transforming reality of grace: forgiven people become forgiving people.

This session examines what Christian forgiveness actually means, drawing on Jesus’ parables and teachings about debts, mercy, and reconciliation. We’ll consider why forgiveness is not the same as forgetting, excusing harm, ignoring boundaries, or pretending an offense never happened. Instead, forgiveness is a costly and deliberate choice to release another person from the debt they owe us, making space for healing and relationship. Ultimately, Jesus calls the church to become a community of forgiven forgivers, where grace, mercy, reconciliation, and the transforming power of the cross shape how we live together.
