God’s Favor (Session 5)
Those Desperate for Justice
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6
Episode Summary
What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness? In this session on the Sermon on the Mount, we explore Jesus’ fourth Beatitude and the idea of God’s Kingdom as an “already, but not yet” reality. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s Kingdom has already begun within us, even as we continue to wait for its fullness. This hope calls us to live according to the values of God’s Kingdom in the midst of the world as it is.
Jesus’ call to hunger and thirst for righteousness is more than a personal desire to live rightly. It is an insatiable longing for justice, righteousness, and the flourishing of others—a longing that should shape both our private lives and our public witness. This session considers what it means for Christians to pursue justice as an expression of the Gospel and to become ambassadors of God’s Kingdom, embodying its values in the world around us.
