“Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” – Psalm 34:14

August begins International Peace Month, born from the grief of WWI—a hope that The Great War be the last. Yet only thirteen years later, a greater war began. It must have felt despairing. Peace is not guaranteed, even by our best efforts. But when violence returns, we must keep pursuing that which reflects God’s heart—trusting that every peaceful action in this violent world is a participation in God’s promise to make all things new.

Name what feels despairing. Pray for God to show you one small way to counter it.

Red Letter Christians

Red Letter Christians is a non-denominational Christian movement founded in 2007 by progressive evangelical authors and activists Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne. The movement emerged as a counter-cultural reaction to the American religious right, seeking to distance faith from partisan politics and shift the evangelical focus away from a narrow set of dogmatic issues toward Jesus’s radical lifestyle commands. Guided primarily by teachings like the Sermon on the Mount, Red Letter Christians emphasize active social justice—specifically advocating for the poor, ending capital punishment, promoting racial reconciliation, protecting the environment, and practicing peace and nonviolence.
