Living a Transformed Life
Summary
The Christian life is not simply about signing up for the race—it is about running it, growing through discipleship, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us along the way. Using gymnastics and Paul’s teaching about the race of faith, Dr. Josh Olds explores sanctification, the struggle to become more like Christ, and the freedom we have within God’s will. Rather than becoming paralyzed by fear of making the wrong decision, we are called to know God’s ways, take faithful initiative, trust the Spirit to guide us, and live boldly within the freedom God gives us.
Outline
1. The Christian Life Is a Race, Not a Registration — Salvation begins with justification, but following Jesus means entering the ongoing work of sanctification as we train, grow, struggle, and become more like Christ.
2. Transformation Requires Training — Like an athlete preparing for competition, Christians cannot expect spiritual transformation without the intentional work of discipleship and the daily practice of living out our faith.
3. God’s Will Is a Framework for Freedom — God gives us boundaries and principles for faithful living, but within those boundaries there is tremendous freedom to make choices, pursue flourishing, and live according to who God has uniquely created us to be.
4. Don’t Wait for God to Give You a Map — Like Paul beginning his journey before knowing exactly where the Spirit would lead him, we are called to know God’s ways, take faithful action, and trust God to redirect us when necessary.
5. The Goal Is Faithfulness, Not Perfection — The Christian life is not a precarious performance where one mistake ruins everything, but a Spirit-guided journey in which God continually picks us up, teaches us, and helps us live transformed lives.
