JumpStart Your Growth – John Maxwell

JumpStart Your Growth John Maxwell

QUICK HIT: This 90 day series covers one short topic a day: one quote and two paragraphs of text on the left side, one writing assignment on the right side. Think of JumpStart Your Growth as an intentional leadership journal.

The name John Maxwell is synonymous with leadership. Recently, Center Street, a division of Hachette Book Group, has been repackaging Maxwell’s most famous books into 90 day improvement plans intended to drive readers into action. It’s easy to read a book, understand the concepts, and leave it energized, but quite another altogether to put things into action.

Thus, the JumpStart series was born. It began earlier this year with JumpStart Your Leadership and will continue this fall with JumpStart Your Thinking. The purpose is this: actually get people intentional about leadership. This 90 day series covers one short topic a day: one quote and two paragraphs of text on the left side, one writing assignment on the right side. Think of these as intentional leadership journals.

Let me highlight some of the days:

Day 1 – Potential. Describe what you believe about your potential, and then describe how you have hoped or planned to become all you can be.

Day 27 – What will work practically for you? Identify two or three places where you can consistently and effectively pause and reflect. Then go to one to think.

Day 53 – Think of a recent negative experience and write an honest assessment of your attitude toward it. What did you do in response? How might you want to approach such experiences in the future?

Day 90 – Create a list of growth goals that you would like to accomplish in the next year. Make sure the list is attainable but will also require you to stretch. Then identify the goal you want to accomplish in the next 90 days and outline the daily discipline required for you to achieve it.

The secret of this book is in actually doing it. Nothing Maxwell says is mind-blowingly life-changing. The secret is the process. Of being intentional. Of committing. Put things in the forefront of your mind by writing them down here and you’ll have success. I also suggest you pair this business assignment with The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. Use both and you’ll find, not guaranteed growth, but a guaranteed path to growth if you follow through.
